Inspiration

The world is full of inspiring things and people. Lately, I’ve been impressed with two little boys. They have incredible faith (as do their parents):

These little boys were diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia when they were 3 and 7 months old. Luckily, a suitable bone marrow donor was found and the boys are now healthy 5 year olds.

Who inspires you?

Carrie (their mom) invited everyone to consider registering to be a bone marrow donor. I decided to take her up on it. Most agencies charge to register potential donors, however DKMS does not. They ask for donations, but do not require payment.

It was easy to register. I just filled out their online form. When the kit arrived, I swabbed the inside of my cheek. And now I wait to see if I can help anyone.

If they do say I’m a match, the recipient pays for everything. The donor just has the discomfort of the procedure (it takes about a week to recover). In the scheme of things, that is a minor inconvenience compared what it gives the recipient.

I would encourage any of you, if you feel so inspired, to join me on the bone marrow registry list.
