Little Moments

The neighbors have a bench in their front yard. It’s the typical bench you buy at Home Depot. Nothing too special. But it brought back memories. Memories that I hope I never forget.

During my last year of college, I would drive past my great-grandpa’s house 1-5 days a week on my way to and from work. I tried to make a point of stopping by his house 1-2 times a month to visit with him. One day, he didn’t answer his door. I started walking back to my car when I heard Grandpa call for me. He was sitting on a bench in his yard enjoying the fresh air.

We just sat there on his bench talking.  He would pat my knee with his strong hand, and call me “Honey.” Whenever I would try to excuse myself, Grandpa would change the subject. I sat and visited with Grandpa for two hours.

We fill a majority of our time with things we don’t really care about. Things that don’t really matter in the long run.

I’ve tried to apply that lesson to my current situation. It’s easy to get occupied with all the things on my to do list: work, cleaning, errands, etc.

But the moments I enjoy most are the moments I spend with those I love.

Like the moment I sat outside on the side deck nursing Zeke while Lily rode her tricycle.  Or the times when Zeke laughed because I kept kissing him on his neck. Or when Scott & I fell asleep holding hands (instead of our typical not facing each other position).

Those are the moments I cherish and the moments I want more of.
