I remember standing in the front yard as a 6 year old giving my best cheesy grin as my mom took a picture of me in the dress. I didn’t understand why it was so important for her to have a picture of me in the dress, when I had already started to out grow it. It would take me years to learn to appreciate the dress the way my mother did.
Decades ago, my great grandmother, Cora Elkington, crocheted this dress for her oldest daughter (my grandmother). In turn, my grandmother had my mother wear the dress. And then my mother had each of us wear the dress, taking pictures to document it.
My mother’s love instilled a love in me for the dress.
My mom was deep cleaning a few months ago, and pulled the dress out of a closet. So I asked her if I could let Lily wear it.
Lily loves the dress. And she loves hearing the story of how her great great grandmother made the dress so long ago for her little girl.
